Leadership Development

The future of outdoor sports is inclusive of all communities––its leadership should reflect that.

We believe that the voices, perspectives, and gifts of those from marginalized communities improve all aspects of civilization––especially leadership. Because of the historic and present lack of diversity in the outdoor workforce, we dedicate a significant portion of our resources preparing the youth we serve to become the newest generation of leaders in outdoor spaces and beyond.

In Practice

Leadership development is a core element of all of the work we do. Our youth have taken essential skills learned in programming into a variety of professional fields, using them to become valued leaders in their communities. Within CAT’s own team, previous youth participants have grown into core roles of strategic leadership in expanding our mission.

While leadership development is embedded into all of our programming, our youth apprenticeship offers young people interested in pursuing outdoor-related careers a wide range of training in general and sports-specific outdoor skills, risk management, social-emotional learning, and other standard workforce practices.
