Catching Up With CAT: Creating Lessons and Presentations

Over the past few weeks in the after school program, I’ve been actively participating in and leading a variety of educational activities designed to build both leadership and practical outdoor skills. My team and I teach the kids lessons that focus on teamwork, communication, and problem-solving through fun and engaging exercises. We’ve also introduced them to essential backpacking skills, including how to properly pack for an expedition, stay safe outdoors, and practice basic emergency rescue techniques.

In addition to these hands-on lessons, we’ve been working together to create a presentation for Quiet Adventure. This process has allowed me to develop skills in organizing information, public speaking, and collaborating effectively with my peers while ensuring the kids also gain valuable knowledge. Teaching these lessons has helped me grow as a leader, mentor, and communicator, and has reinforced the importance of patience, creativity, and clear instruction when guiding others through new challenges.
