Catching Up With CAT: Reflecting on the Summer

Hello! This is Kylah, a summer-time intern with CAT this season. Last week was uneventful for me in terms of programming due to cancellations (from the air quality) and a generally light schedule. However, this summer has been no less than a blast!!

I’ve learned so many new skills like how to belay, kayak, and mountain bike. Before this summer, I had never been in a kayak. Now, I’m playing games and coaching participants in Jackson Harbor. I’ve been able to build relationships with populations that I may not have interacted with before! Given that I want to be a pediatrician, being able to connect with people of various ages and backgrounds has been vital in improving my interpersonal skills. In specific, the group of NLC participants that I see almost every Tuesday have shown me the direct impact the CAT team has on individuals. I have been able to watch them grow more confident and joyful across the time we’ve had together. I am proud to say that I’ve made a difference in people’s lives.

Also, I’ve seen so much of the city as we’ve travelled all over (I’m from Long Island🫣). The CAT team is so knowledgeable and amazing! They have supported me through training for brand new skills and still when I’m not to sure what to do. This internship exposed me to so many new people and places all while having fun and making the world a better place for everyone.

My adventure with CAT this summer has been nothing but entertaining and educational. I can say with confidence that this is the best experience and I’m proud of its place on my resumé! I can’t wait to see what the rest of this summer internship holds for me!
